Special Olympics Indiana selected as charity partner for NBA All-Star Game
Basketball rests at the heart of Indiana’s identity. It is a sport where Hoosiers’ passion runs deep, a game that enjoys a history filled with Hollywood endings.
The NBA All-Star Game hosted by Pacers Sports & Entertainment and coming Sunday, Feb. 18, to Gainbridge Fieldhouse provides another opportunity to add to that story.
The NBA on Thursday announced that Special Olympics Indiana is one of two charity partners for the game. The Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis is the other.
As a charity partner, Special Olympics Indiana is guaranteed a $100,000 donation plus $950 per assist. And if the East Team wins, Special Olympics receives another $240,000 donation. The West Team represents the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis.
The partnership also offers the opportunity for four Special Olympics Indiana teams to play during Fan Fest. Games are 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Indiana Convention Center. Details and team selections are coming soon. The games are free to attend.
The Indiana Pacers sponsor the Special Olympics Indiana state basketball tournament and are longtime supporters of the organization.
“We are so grateful for our partnership with the Pacers all these years and to have this opportunity,” Special Olympics Indiana President and CEO Jeff Mohler said. “The financial donations will be impactful and have such a significant bearing in what we can do, but to have our name out there with the Pacers and NBA, it really shows what we are trying to do. We want our athletes, people with intellectual disabilities to be seen as contributing members of their communities, which they are.”
“We love our relationship with the Special Olympics Indiana, and we are proud of the things we have been able to do together,” Pacers Sports and Entertainment President and CEO Mel Raines said.
