Special Olympics Indiana Fall Competition Continues with Five Championships This Weekend

Equestrian is Saturday, Sept. 27, at Hendricks County 4H Fairgrounds Conference Center in Danville. Athletes will compete in flag race, trail, showmanship and Western riding. Competition begins at 9 a.m.

Flag football, distance run/walk, soccer and cornhole tournaments take place Sunday, Sept. 29, during Eunice Kennedy Shriver (EKS) Weekend at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and Grand Park in Westfield. The weekend is named in honor of Shriver, who founded Special Olympics in 1968 and was the sister of former President John F. Kennedy.

Flag football and distance run/walk are at Brebeuf. An Opening Ceremony takes place at 8:30 a.m. with competition starting at 9 a.m. Distance run/walk includes one-mile, 3K and 5K races.

Soccer and cornhole are at Grand Park. Cornhole begins at 9 a.m. and runs all day with a Halftime Ceremony around noon. Soccer is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon.

More than 1,000 athletes and Unified partners are registered to compete during EKS Weekend.

“This weekend marks our largest events of the fall, and we look forward to seeing all of the hard work that athletes and Unified partners have put into getting ready,” Special Olympics Indiana President and CEO Jeff Mohler said.

Nearly 3,000 athletes and Unified partners are expected to take part in the eight championship tournaments this fall.

  • Golf, Sept. 8 at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood.
  • Equestrian, Sept. 27-28 at Hendricks County 4H Fairgrounds.
  • Flag football and distance run/walk, Sept. 29 at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School.
  • Soccer and cornhole, Sept. 29 at Grand Park in Westfield.
  • Unified volleyball, Oct. 19 at Munciana Volleyball Facility in Yorktown.
