Volunteers Needed for 2021 Indiana Summer Games

by | May 25, 2021 | Uncategorized

Calling all volunteers!

Special Olympics Indiana is thrilled to take the next step in returning to in-person competition this year as hundreds of athletes from across the state are set to take part in the 2021 Indiana Summer Games, to be held June 11-13 in Indianapolis and Terre Haute.

Some aspects of the Games will necessarily be different as we aim to promote social distancing and to avoid large gatherings, especially indoors; but with health and safety protocols in place, we are nearly ready to make a triumphant return to our biggest and best event of the year. And that’s where you come in!

Following an unprecedented year filled with virtual events and at-home challenges in which far fewer volunteers were needed than usual, our core group of Summer Games volunteers has been reduced — meaning that many general volunteers are still needed. The following volunteer shifts are available:

Friday,  June 11 @ Woodland Bowl (Indianapolis)

    • 3:00 PM – 6:15 PM
    • 5:45 PM – 8:30 PM

Saturday, June 12 @ Indiana State University & Rose Hulman Institute of Technology (Terre Haute)

    • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (multiple sports)
    • 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM (multiple sports)

Sunday, June 13 @ Indiana State University & Rose Hulman Institute of Technology (Terre Haute)

    • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (multiple sports)
    • 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM (multiple sports)

As a volunteer-driven organization, Special Olympics Indiana relies upon the generosity of people like you to make possible our year-round programs and events for people with intellectual disabilities, with as many as 13,000 volunteers supporting those efforts each year. The vast majority of our volunteers simply donate a small amount of their time to help staff events like Summer Games, filling roles ranging from scorekeeper to lane assistant to awards management and everything in between.

Volunteering is fun, easy, and extremely rewarding, and no experience is necessary. Please consider volunteering and help us celebrate the return to competition for our athletes!

To register, visit https://2021summergames.my-trs.com/ and click the purple “Register Now” box. You will then select “General Volunteers” or “General Swimming Volunteers” (Rose Hulman), depending on where you’d like to spend your time. From there, select your desired volunteer shift (please make sure to not book conflicting shifts!) and complete your registration following the prompts.
