Carmel Names Street After Sky Simpson

Earlier this week, Mayor Sue Finkam and the City of Carmel, Ind., honored Hamilton County athlete Sky Simpson by naming a street after him.

It’s the same way the city honored its Olympic athletes this past summer.

The street sign at Monon Green Boulevard and Range Line Road is temporarily changed to “Sky Simpson Boulevard.”

Simpson won the overall gold medal for the Special Olympics 205-pound division at the 2024 IPF World Equipped Open Powerlifting Championships in Reykjavik, Iceland. He cleared weights of 127.5kg in the squat, 97.5kg in bench, 107.5kg in deadlift for a 332.5 total. His squat and bench efforts also earned gold with deadlift gaining silver.

“Watching him grow just socially and … having the new confidence just to come in and train, that’s been cool to see,” Kyle Moran told WRTV. Moran is Simpson’s trainer and Special Olympics Indiana manager of health and fitness.

“Him up there on the podium with that gold banner, first place, and his name with the American flag. I saw that and I just started crying. I couldn’t hold it in.”
