2021 Athlete Leadership University, Spring Semester
The 2021 athlete leadership season is starting with an updated name for ALPs U. We are now Athlete Leadership University, a small but important update to align with changes in the Special Olympics programs.
The dates for Athlete Leadership University in the upcoming year are:
- Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25 – Virtual
- Saturday, Oct 2 & Sunday, Oct 3 – Butler University (tentative)
We are hopeful that we will return to Butler’s campus in the fall and resume our traditional course offerings.
The course schedule for April will be:
- Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM (EST)
- Sunday: 10 AM – 1 PM (EST)
For NEW (rookie) Athletes Leaders, they MUST enroll in Introduction to Athlete Leadership as their first class. For returning Athlete Leaders, they will enroll in the Advanced Leadership Skills course. This includes the following topics, each topic is 2-hours in length. Athletes will break out into three (3) groups and rotate through each topic: Managing Time & Tasks, Engaging with Others, and Better Money Habits (taught by our sponsor, Bank of America). Athletes may move on to the next class, even if they have not completed their practicums from Athlete Leadership University from October and December 2020. All outstanding practicums from 2019 to 2020 are due by April 5.
Athletes MUST have support from a mentor during any class. Mentors may support up to two athletes, as long as both athletes are taking the same class. If a mentor is supporting two athletes, the mentor’s information must be completed on both athlete’s registration forms. All participants MUST have access to a stable internet connection. If a mentor and athlete are sitting together they may share a computer.
Class space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.
