    Bowling has grown into one of the most popular sports offered in our program. The State Bowling Tournament, held annually in late fall, brings together hundreds of athletes and Unified partners from across the state for two days of fun and competition in Indianapolis.

About Area

Special Olympics Indiana is divided into 10 geographic regions – known as Areas – within the Hoosier state. These Areas, led by teams of volunteers, offer Area-level competition and support for County Programs located within their regional boundaries.

All 10 Areas offer a bowling tournament in the fall and a Track & Field meet in the spring. Special Olympics Indiana athletes must compete at the Area level in order to advance to state-level competition.

Spotlight

Linda

Boothe

Linda is a Johnson County institution. She started volunteering with Special Olympics Indiana the same way most parents get involved – to help her daughter. As one became more involved, so did the other. Every opportunity brought a new life experience, and Linda found herself emotionally invested. “When I see our athletes succeed and continue to grow, it sends chills up my spine and warms my heart,” she said. “And it’s hard to give that up.”

Tommy

Sliva

Tommy Sliva has been involved with Special Olympics for 22 years, competing in Alpine skiing, track and field, basketball, soccer and swimming. He and his coach, Duncan Myers, are among the 150 athletes, Unified partners, coaches and delegation members selected to represent the United States at the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025. Tommy works at Community Health Network Hospital in the material management department. He also participates in the Barrier-Free Theatre, an inclusive theater company for adults with intellectual disabilities.
