2016 Regional Conferences

We encourage Athletes, Area Directors, Area Competition Directors, Area Management Team Members, County Coordinators, County Management Team Members, Volunteers, Coaches and Family Members to attend.

Regional Conference 2016_Dates-Location

  • Time frame is 9:00 am – 3:30 pm eastern time, the South Regional Conference is central time.
  • Area Spirit of Special Olympics awards will be presented by the Area Management Teams.
  • The Regional Conference registration is $10 to all attendees with lunch provided.

Registration Opens, 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Eastern (8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Central time)
Check in, get name tag, and pick up your gift for attending.

Welcome and Opening Session, 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Eastern
Special Olympics Indiana Regional Manager will give a report on the region, highlighting successes and share how Indiana will build a better future for our athletes, families, and volunteers.

Presentation of Awards, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Eastern   
Area Spirit of Special Olympics Awards, County Achievement Awards, and the County of the Year Award presentations and recognition.

Summer Games Recap, 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Eastern   
Recap the excitement and joy of the 2016 Summer Games.

Lunch, 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Eastern
Enjoy lunch  and visit with others.

Sessions, 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Eastern

Athletes as Fundraisers
An ALPs University elective course.  This training will focus on how athletes can help raise awareness and funds by addressing what to talk about, how to dress, and what the athlete’s role is when presenting to potential donors.

Games Management System (GMS) 6.0
Restricted to Area Management Team members only.  GMS 6.0 is the next upgrade to the Games Management System.  With the upgrade comes a new look, new features, and a more user friendly approach.  The training will cover the basics along with new features that will aid in planning for the fall bowling tournaments.

County Management Team Certification Training (For those who have not been certified)
This certification training is recommended for ALL County Management Team members and will provide insight into understanding necessary insurance, finance, fundraising, public relations, athlete participation, various items covered in the Program Information Guide and any additional items that may be needed to ensure that your county program is safe, enjoyable and continuing to grow successfully.

Growing your Volunteer Team (Open to those who have completed County Management Certification)
In this next stage of the Power of Partnerships, County Management Team members will learn the importance of having good, quality volunteers and how to use our Centers of Influence to find those volunteers.  An overview of the new online Volunteer Management System (VMS) will also be provided.

The Best Practices of Coaching (Dress to participate)
This Coaches Training will be taught by one of our experienced coaches with the assistance of a Special Olympics Indiana Athlete.  In this session coaches and others will learn the importance of a good warm-up, teaching Special Olympics athletes, required training for competitions and best practices that can be used by all coaches and athletes.

Closing Session, 3:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Eastern
Please join us as we close the day with some final thoughts.
