2022 Plane Pull Challenge

Are you strong enough to take on an 82-ton Boeing 757 jetliner in a massive game of tug-of-war? Take the Plane Pull Challenge and find out!

Our largest single-day fundraiser offers a unique opportunity for your team of 15 people to compete against others to determine who will be the fastest to pull the aircraft down a 12-foot track. The fastest team in each division will receive an award.

The Plane Pull Challenge also features a festival-like atmosphere with live music, food, souvenirs, games and other activities throughout the day.

Each team is asked to raise at least $1,200 in pledges (an average of less than $100 per person). All funds raised through the Plane Pull Challenge support our nearly 18,000 athletes as well as our organization’s efforts to to end discrimination and empower people with intellectual disabilities across the state of Indiana.

Registration

Register yourself or a team for the Plane Pull Challenge. Teams can include up to 15 members and final rosters will be due on event day. Once the team captain registers your team name, each member should complete their registration and create a personal fundraising page.

Then start fundraising toward your team’s $1,200 minimum goal. All donations will automatically be added to your team total. Keep an eye on the leaderboard prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers.

Puller Express Day

Expedite the event-day check-in process by pre-registering your team and sending your team captain to Puller Express Day, noon-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Special Olympics Indiana State Office.

Here’s how it works:

  • Prior to Puller Express Day, the team captain should collect a completed 2022 Plane Pull waiver and T-shirt size information from all team members.
  • On Puller Express Day, the captain will turn in all waivers and offline donations, and pick up your souvenir Plane Pull T-shirts (limited quantities available, distributed first-come, first-served).
  • The captain will also select your team’s place in the pull order and receive an approximate competition time. Pull times are assigned first come, first served.
  • On event day, use the express check-in line to turn in additional revenue and receive your team’s wristbands to enter the tarmac.
  • BONUS: All teams that pre-register on Puller Express Day will receive a free 8-by-10 printed team photo!

Team Classifications

Corporate Division

The Plane Pull Challenge is a perfect team-building experience for businesses large and small! Teams in this division need at least eight members from the same organization. Corporate teams may also sign up for a chance at an additional award in one of these subcategories:

  • Construction contractors
  • Engineering firms
  • Insurance agencies
  • Law firms

Public Safety Division

Law enforcement officers, fire fighters, DNR, department of correction and military personnel compete in this division. Teams need at least eight public safety competitors to qualify.

High School Division

Perfect for high school athletic teams and clubs, teams in this division must include at least 10 students. Teachers, parents and coaches may fill the other spots if they’re up to the challenge!

College Division

Gather friends from your fraternity, sorority or other campus group and show off your school spirit. Teams in this division must include at least eight students from a single college.

Open Division

Created for groups that don’t quite fit the other categories, this division is ideal for service organizations, church groups, clubs and families as well as mixed teams made of multiple smaller groups.  All you need is 15 people willing to work together to support our athletes.

Hot Shot Challenge presented by Pacers Sports & Entertainment

Test your basketball skills and earn bragging rights in this fun competition presented by our friends at the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever. Beginning at 10 a.m. teams of two will compete to score as many points as they can in one minute.Prizes and a commemorative trophy will be awarded to the top-scoring team. This special event is open to sponsors and top fundraisers only, so register your Plane Pull team and start fundraising now!

Additional Activities

Family Fun Festival

Visit the vendor area to purchase hand-crafted items, enjoy food truck fare and play games.

Kids Exhibition Pull

Watch as younger participants join forces to pull the Boeing 757. This empowering activity is a delight for kids to do and parents to watch. Registration is free, however space is limited so sign up early at the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) tent in the Family Fun Festival area.

Plane Pull Oasis

Back by popular demand, the adults-only Oasis offers a chance to get out of the sun and to enjoy music and a beverage courtesy of our friends at Sun King. Must be 21 with valid ID to enter.

Fundraising Prizes

Plane Pull teams can earn amazing prizes for all members by reaching certain fundraising levels, starting at a minimum of $1,200 per team. This year’s prizes include:

  • $1,200 — souvenir T-shirt
  • $2,500 baseball cap
  • $4,000 — hydration backpack
  • $6,000 — packable hammock

Team Awards

Plane Pull teams are timed as they pull the aircraft across a 12-foot track. Those who rise to the challenge and record the fastest time in each division and subcategory will earn a commemorative trophy plus bragging rights! Awards are also given for:

• Overall fastest pull
• Best team costume
• Most team spirit
• Top fundraising team
