NFHS Hosts Third Annual Unified Experience as part of its 2018 National Student Leadership Summit

Special Olympics Indiana partnered with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) again this year to provide a Unified Experience to the students who participated in the National Student Leadership Summit (NSLS) on July 24. Nearly 50 Special Olympics athletes from across the state took part in the event, joining approximately 150 NFHS high school and college student-athletes from around the United States and Canada.

Unified Fitness Clubs Making Great Strides

In keeping with Special Olympics’ commitment to improving the overall health and quality of life of the people we serve, Unified Fitness Clubs have been springing up across the state—offering opportunities for athletes and unified partners to come together for group exercise on a regular basis.

2017 Spirit of Special Olympics Athlete of the Year

Chris Perdue is a snowboarder—among the first to take up the sport when it became an official Winter Games event in Indiana and among the best in the years since—and in the last year has achieved a great deal through his work on the slopes, including winning gold at the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

2017 Spirit of Special Olympics Coach of the Year

Juanita Garten Eacret has served as Benton County Coordinator since 1982, and over the course of last 35 years has served as head coach for many sports at one time or another. During her coaching career, Juanita has coached countless athletes in bowling, gymnastics, swimming, track & field, and powerlifting.

2017 Spirit of Special Olympics Family of the Year

Special Olympics athlete Lindsay “Lin” Hanna, her brother Josh, and her parents, Art and Sue, have been involved with our Washington Township program since 1997, when Lin and Art began competing in golf as unified partners. In the 20 years since, the Hanna’s have been a steady presence in their local program and have made their mark on all whose paths they’ve crossed.
