Join Us this Summer for Special Olympics’ 50th Anniversary Celebration in Chicago!

by | Mar 29, 2018 | Spotlight

The spark that became today’s Special Olympics movement ignited in 1968, at the first International Summer Games in Chicago. Five decades later, we are returning to where it all began to take part in a series of commemorative events hosted by Special Olympics International, July 17-21. Join Special Olympics Indiana athletes, families, volunteers, and staff for an unforgettable experience, honoring the past and celebrating the future of the Special Olympics movement!

Special Olympics Indiana is planning to take part in the festivities by leading a group outing on Friday, July 20th, and everyone is invited! However, space is limited and slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so don’t wait to register.

$160 Ticket Price Includes:

Eternal Flame of Hope Lighting
Be there as a new permanent, 30-foot monument is lit at Soldier Field, symbolizing the eternal hope that Special Olympics provides to athletes and their families, and in turn, the eternal hope that Special Olympics athletes provide to the world.

Law Enforcement Torch Run Commemorative Run
Cheer on Special Olympics athletes and LETR officers from around the world as they carry the Flame of Hope in a ceremonial four-mile Torch Run through Chicago and along Lake Michigan, culminating in the lighting of the Eternal Flame of Hope monument.

Happy Hour Cruise on Lake Michigan
After spending some time enjoying the city of Chicago, we’ll hit the water for a few hours of food, drinks, and fun for all ages. Don’t miss this chance to bond with the Special Olympics Indiana group and to experience the Chicago skyline like never before!

Unified Cup Finals (schedule permitting)
The Special Olympics Unified Cup, presented by Toyota, will feature men’s and women’s teams comprised of players with and without intellectual disabilities representing every region of the world. Schedule permitting, we’ll be in attendance for the final game.

No Hassle Transportation and Parking
Getting around a city like Chicago and keeping up with a large group can be difficult (and expensive!), but we’ll make it easy by providing bus transportation to and from each stop on our day-long adventure — beginning and ending at the Crowne Plaza Chicago West Loop Hotel.

Commemorative Souvenir Gift
All Special Olympics Indiana guests who participate in this group outing as part of the International 50th Anniversary celebration will receive a special gift to commemorate the experience.
